Location: The farm is located at Cordele, approximately 13 miles north of US 59, between Ganado & Edna, off FM 530 on CR 278. The Jackson County Airport is less than a mile from the FM 530 exit (3,393’ asphalt runway).
Habitat: This is a predominantly open rice farm and cattle ranch. Longs Branch Creek crosses the far southwest corner of the property, providing approximately 25 acres of scattered live oaks and brush. This area would make a great spot for a hunting lodge or residence.
Wildlife: For waterfowl, along the Texas Gulf Coast, it is hard to find a better location. Within a 10 mile radius of this property are thousands of acres of rice ground, many of which are managed in part for waterfowl. Dove hunting can be excellent, and the ranch’s sandy soils would be conducive to quail restoration.
Deer, hogs, and varmints visit the farm’s wooded and pasture areas.
Cropland: Approximately 220 acres are typically planted in rice on a 3-year rotation. One +115 acre block has been bench leveled. Cattle: The three year rice rotation is conducive to running cattle on the non-planted portions of the farm. Approximately 120 acres are in “permanent” pasture of native grasses. The grazing is being conservatively managed, with a stocking ratio of 1 A.U. to 10-12 acres of area not currently planted.
