Born and raised in Shreveport, Dan graduated from Washington and Lee University in 1964, with a B.A. Degree in Political Science. After serving a tour in Vietnam as a 1st Lieutenant Counter Intelligence Advisor in the Army, he headed to Houston as fast as he could. Since 1995, Dan has been very involved in the management of a large ranch in Central West Texas, dealing with oil and gas transactions, transmission lines, government programs, water rights, hunting, livestock and many other ranch specific issues. That ranch was the recipient of many conservation awards, most notably the Texas Parks and Wildlife’s Lone Star Land Steward Award for the Edwards Plateau region in 2010.

Dan serves as a Director and Life Member of The Texas Wildlife Association and is a member of the International Order of St. Hubertus. He was instrumental in raising over $1.7 million for Texas Game Wardens as Chair of “Gear Up For Game Wardens”.

Dan is an avid bow hunter and fisherman. He has two grown children and two grandchildren and lives in Houston with his wife of 52 years.

Dan is licensed in Texas.
