Topography, Rangeland & Habitat

Sloping from North to South the ranch presents vastly different landtypes from the front gate to the southern boundary on Chocolate Bay. Soil types on the property suggest the ranch is split almost perfectly in half between infrequently flooded uplands in the North, and frequently flooded estuaries to the South.

The uplands are characterized by a healthy stand of native grasses including bushy bluestem and little bluestem, as well as scattered brush and few hardwood trees. This section of the property supports whitetail, wild pigs, doves, and a breeding population of bobwhite quail– a testament to the property’s effective management.

Flanked on the East by Halls Bayou, New Bayou on the West, and Chocolate Bay to the south, the property’s lowlands are influenced by the variety of habitat created by freshwater, saltwater, and the hybrid systems casually referred to as brackish estuaries. These frequently flooded sections of the ranch are rich with marine and bird life and offer endless recreational opportunities including crabbing, fishing, bird hunting, kayaking, or just watching a beautiful sunset over the marsh.

Wildlife
