Topography, Rangeland & Habitat
High Chaparral Ranch has a great deal of elevation change across the ranch. A large hillside traverses the property’s north side, providing panoramic views of the entire ranch to the south. The ranch features a diverse habitat structure with live oaks and post oaks scattered along the hillsides and large oak mottes scattered in the mesquite flats. This gives the ranch a great mix of open space and thick cover that whitetails and other wildlife thrive in.
80 acres of cultivation traditionally planted with wheat and oats in the fall provide quality forage for deer and other wildlife in the winter and early spring. Native sunflowers are established in these fields as well. They grow in the late spring and throughout the summer and provide an excellent food source for attracting a healthy population of doves.
