7 Simple Mistakes to Avoid when Planting a Food Plot
1. What other areas of expertise do you have that can help your clients?
I really enjoy helping clients develop improvement plans for their new ranch. It is amazing to see clients transform a raw piece of dirt into a beautiful well-rounded ranch. On top of that, I feel that good land management is one of the most impactful value drivers in their investment. These projects range from managing brush, building ponds/lakes, improving pastures, and improving specific wildlife habitat. During my time off I enjoy testing new habitat management techniques on our family ranch.
2. What are some hobbies you enjoy doing in your spare time?
My family and I enjoy making memories in the outdoors, whether that is spending time at the ranch, hiking in the Hill Country or kayaking the clear, limestone-bottom rivers of Central Texas.
3. What is your go-to travel spot?
During the summer we have an annual family trip to Seaside, Florida, that we have been doing for 30 years. In the fall we typically head out to West Texas to explore places like Elephant Mountain, Santa Elena Canyon, and the Davis Mountains.
4. Do you have a favorite “off the beaten path” restaurant when you’re on the road?
Austin’s BBQ in Eagle Lake, Texas. It’s a small, hole in the wall BBQ joint I can’t resist, especially after a great morning duck hunt.
5. What is your proudest moment or favorite memory while working with Republic Ranches?
By far my proudest moment was the closing day of the El Rancho Cima, a 2,300-acre Boy Scout Camp on the Blanco River near Wimberley, Texas. It was truly a unique experience. The ranch’s long and impactful history challenged me to think outside of the box when devising a marketing strategy. From a negotiation standpoint, it was one of the more intricate transactions that I’ve worked on. It felt great to cross the finish line and play a small part in the advancement of the Boy Scout legacy.
6. What’s a motto you live by?
Do what you can’t! It’s a simple motto but powerful. Don’t let the norm define the “right” way to do something, be creative and dream big.
