Lone Woman Mountain Ranch offers sweeping views and a slice of Texas music history.

The 675‑acre Lone Woman Mountain Ranch in Driftwood is listed for $19,500,000, commanding views from its own mountaintop, and—according to the listing—a home once used by George Strait and George Jones as a place to rehearse with the Ace in the Hole band. The band, which formed in San Marcos in the 1970s, recorded several singles, including Strait-penned tracks, before releasing a full album in 1995.
For Ross Studer with Republic Ranches, that little bit of music history is just one of many layers that make Lone Woman Mountain Ranch special.
“It’s just a really cool place,” Studer said. “When you get on top of Lone Woman, overlook the Wimberley Valley, you feel the sense of history all over the place.”
Situated along the highly desirable Ranch Road 12 corridor in Hays County, the ranch is surrounded by more than 6,000 acres of conservation land, including the adjacent Storm Ranch. That means privacy and long‑term geographic protection that’s increasingly rare in Central Texas.
From its highest point—about 1,400 feet—the property offers unobstructed 360‑degree views of the Hill Country. Wimberley is about 6.5 miles north, Dripping Springs sits 8 miles south, and Austin is roughly 30 miles away.
The ranch includes two residences near the entrance. The original stone ranch house—with wood and plaster walls and original wood floors—has been remodeled with updated kitchen, bathrooms and a new HVAC system, and has served comfortably as a guest or caretaker home. The second home, built by a prior owner, offers solid bones and renovation potential—as well as the band‑practice lore.
An extensive network of ranch roads provides easy access throughout the property, including roads to both mountaintop peaks.
The land is the main attraction. The ranch has varied terrain, including wooded canyons, limestone creek bottoms, and pastures with mature oak trees. Seasonal creeks and natural springs run through the property, supporting wildlife and natural drainage.
There’s also water: a 4‑acre stocked and well‑maintained pond, plus a second 1‑acre pond.
“This property has that combination of incredible views, accessibility, natural features and legacy appeal that’s very hard to find,” Studer said. “And with unrestricted land like this, buyers have a lot of options—from conservation to development, or just making it their own private retreat.”
