A Texas Hill Country ranch with ties to George Strait’s early music career has officially hit the market. The stunning property is so breathtaking, it might just inspire the next great Texas songwriter.

Lone Woman Mountain Ranch in Driftwood, Texas, is a 675-acre estate with sweeping, 360-degree views stretching out across the miles of the Hill Country. The property is listed for $19.5 million. Located just a short distance from nearby destinations like Wimberley, Dripping Springs and Fredericksburg, even the Austin skyline is visible from parts of the property, which encompasses the entirety of Lone Woman Mountain, a hilltop whose highest point reaches approximately 1,400 feet — believed to be the eighth-highest peak in Hays County.

It’s also a piece of Texas music history. The listing states that the house was once used as a rehearsal space by George Strait and George Jones, and the Ace in the Hole Band. The band played its first show together in 1975 in San Marcos, where it performed together for several years before breaking through in the 80s and 90s.

According to Tallon Martin of Republic Ranches, the real estate firm behind the listing, the property was once called the Daily Ranch, owned at the time by a family with ties to the young country musicians who would go on to become major names in the industry.

“The family that owned the ranch before were friends with George Jones and George Strait, and they would come and hang out from time to time when they were there,” Martin told MySA. “They would play sets at the house and just practice. I think for them, it was just a place of solitude and inspiration.”

Positioned on the “growth corridor” of Ranch Road 12 in Hays County, the land overlooks the Wimberly Valley and the Devil’s Backbone, a scenic, 51-mile limestone ridge road in the Texas Hill Country, believed by many to be haunted.

“It’s inspiring and feels like something that a Texas songwriting legend would sit there and go, ‘What do I want to write about today?'” Martin said.

The ranch features amazing scenery, water pond features, wildlife corridors, and ideal habitat diversity, surrounded by 6,000 square feet of adjacent conservation land to ensure privacy.

Two residences sit near the ranch’s entrance, each with their own well, and the property’s original stone ranch house has been remodeled in recent years with updated amenities.
