Ford’s Prairie Ranch is located 12 miles west of La Grange, Texas on West Old Lockhart Road. Located 55 miles from downtown Austin, 113 miles from Houston, and 108 miles from San Antonio. The ranch has a mixture of open pastures and thick timber with multiple stock tanks. Great fencing through out the ranch with elaborate cross fencing for rotational grazing. Also there is a wide variety of game for hunters all season long. The ranch has ample electricity, multiple water wells, and several beautiful build sites over looking the rolling pastures and water features.
Location: The gate entrance is on West Old Lockhart Road just south of West Point, Texas. The property has approximately 0.58 miles of paved road frontage. The ranch has three gates along the frontage road to access the property.
Topography: A majority of the property sits at around 400 ft. above sea level and gradually descends into several draws on the east side and west side of the ranch. In these draws you will find thick woods consisting of multiple oak species (particularly post oak), cedar, hackberry, and cedar elm.
Wildlife: The wildlife species that can be found on the ranch include whitetail deer, turkey, dove, and other vermin. The are currently several blinds and protein feeders set up throughout the ranch. The front pond also has the potential to hold wood ducks in the fall because of it’s several small sloughs in the back.
Improvements: In the Northeast corner there is a 50X20 metal storage shed that can be used for storing tractors, ATV, or feeders in the off season. There is a built up cache road which runs from the front gate back to the high fenced pasture to allow for access in all weather conditions.
History: This property sits in an area once referred to as Ford’s Prairie in the early 1900’s, a small community near the Fayette-Bastrop county line. Nothing remains of the community except for the old school House which was once located at the corner of Hwy 95 and Old Lockhart rd but now resides on the ranch. Water: The property sits on top of the Carrizo-Wilcox Major Aquifer and Yegua Jackson, Sparta, & Queen City Minor Aquifers. There are several small stock tanks scattered throughout the ranch, some which have water lines run to them to maintain levels in dry times. The largest pond is about .7 acres which sits in the northeastern portion of the ranch. This would make a great bass pond and double as a dove hunting tank in the fall. The adjoining field could be planted in grain to attract more birds to the pond. The property also has two wells, one near the front pasture and another toward the back southeast corner. (see map for locations)
Electricity: Electricity is available throughout the property.
