Sycamore Creek Ranch - Val Verde County, Del Rio, TX

Key Attributes

The Sycamore Creek Ranch, located in Val Verde and Kinney Counties of Texas, is a fantastic opportunity to own a southwest Texas ranch with 2.5 miles of both sides of Sycamore Creek and its riparian habitat and waterholes. The ranch’s diverse brush country and native rangelands are bisected by some six other drainages as well, with significant stands of live oaks, sycamores and other trees all offering fantastic wildlife habitat.

Topography, Terrain and Habitat:

The ranch has varying terrain surrounding Sycamore Creek and the other creek drainages. Topographic relief of some 65’ allows for great views of the ranch and the hill country to the north. Sycamore Creek has also cut some nice cliffs over time allowing for great wildlife viewing from topside stand locations.

Native brush and rangeland are found across the ranch with significant stands of deciduous trees in numerous areas providing further diversity and beauty. Majestic live oaks, sycamores, Texas Persimmon, mesquite, acacia, common brush species, native grasses and forbs are found on the ranch.

Wildlife and Hunting:

Wildlife species that can be found on this ranch include white-tailed and axis deer (established herds providing year round hunting!), turkey, more turkey, dove, quail, a few red sheep, feral hogs, varmints and songbirds.

The ranch is currently on a season lease program for hunting.

Improvements:

The ranch has historically been used, in part, for livestock production with traps, main pens and barns in headquarters area; satellite pens and interior pasture fencing are in place as well. The ranch is organized into 10 pastures of varying sizes. The ranch perimeter is predominantly low fenced, although there is some existing high fence.

The headquarters area also has a hunter’s camp and several other structures.

Water:

Sycamore Creek is a very large watercourse that is over ¼ mile wide in places. Water flows above the gravel only during periodic runoff events but is typically present in the gravel above the bedrock with several more or less permanent waterholes (some maintained) used extensively by wildlife and livestock alike.

Six other drainages are wet weather and there is one stock tank that has been constructed on one of them located a little west of the headquarters.

Ranch water is also provided by 3 operating water wells (one electric and two solar). The wells, 3 storage pilas, miles of pipeline and some 25 water troughs and one overflow ground pila provide water for wildlife, livestock and domestic uses.

Location and Area Attractions:

The ranch is located along Highway 90, about 16 miles west of Brackettville and seven miles east of Loop 79 on the east side of Del Rio Texas. Del Rio offers groceries, shopping, ranch supplies, commercial air service and medical facilities. Brackettville is a town with a rich history dating back to the mid-1800s and home to historic Ft. Clark and the famous Las Moras Springs. Lake Amistad, with its world class fishing and boating, is just 20-25 minutes away from the ranch.
