About Kate
A native Houstonian and ranch owner herself, Kate has been watching the ranch and land market since long before she received her broker’s license in 2008. Her deep knowledge of the Texas landscape helps her to hand select properties for her clients, connecting them to exactly the right property for their needs. A lifelong equestrian, Kate is also Republic Ranches’ in-house equestrian specialist with extensive experience in horse care and the demands of different equestrian disciplines. When she is not driving deep into the countryside with clients, Kate is President of Shadyside Farms, a boarding and training facility for hunters and jumpers, which she has owned and managed since 1991. Shadyside Farms has locations in Montgomery and Waller counties that board hunters, jumpers, and polo ponies. Kate graduated from the University of Virginia with a Bachelors of Science in Architectural History and Preservation. She is a proud mother of three children who also chose to attend the University of Virginia and lives in Houston with her husband, Steve Gibson. Kate is licensed in Texas.
1. What other areas of expertise do you have that can help your clients?
Having grown up in Houston and spent a great deal of time in the surrounding country, I feel I have a good sense of what people are looking for in a country or weekend place or a full-time working farm (as I’ve dipped my toe personally in all these realms!). My time as an architecture student, I think, helped me create a thought process for putting together all the ingredients that go into making a space special — even if the spaces I’m now dealing with are measured in acres instead of square feet.
2. What are some hobbies you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I have to be outside so almost anything- riding, running, pickleball, golfing, hiking, skiing, or reading a book in a hammock!
3. What is your go-to travel spot?
I love the mountains of North Carolina or any beach with warm water.
4. Do you have a favorite “off the beaten path” restaurant when you’re on the road?
I love Royers in Round Top, Killians in Hempstead or Bevers Kitchen in Chappell Hill. In Houston- Sunrise Taquitos in the Shell station on Memorial is the perfect way to start a day and head the country.
5. What is your proudest moment or favorite memory while working with Republic Ranches?
Many memories and favorite moments of finding the perfect ranch for a family. One family I worked with looked for 3 years. When we finally found the right fit, I got to watch the family fall in love with the countryside and the children become enamored with the land and that’s when you know it has been worthwhile.
6. What’s a motto you live by?
Don’t worry about things you cannot change – enjoy the little everyday things.
I get excited with every new client and love seeing new properties when exploring with new clients. It is like a puzzle that I get to solve.
