Driven by a deep passion for Texas land and backed by advanced education and experience in rangeland ecology, land management, and emerging energy markets, Colton Matthews brings a well-rounded expertise to his role at Republic Ranches. His unique blend of field experience, academic insight, and awareness of modern land-use dynamics makes him a trusted advisor to clients navigating today’s ranch real estate markets.
His connection to the land began early as he managed family properties across Texas, experiences that influenced a lifelong dedication to land stewardship. That foundation continues to guide his work at the intersection of ranch brokerage and ecological land management.
Colton is also the founder of Staterra Land, LLC, a prescription-based wildlife and habitat consulting firm. Through Staterra, he works directly with landowners to improve the ecological function and long-term value of their properties in congruence with their high level objectives, tailoring strategies to meet both conservation and ranching goals.
He holds a Master of Natural Resources from the Texas A&M School of Rangeland, Wildlife, and Fisheries Management. His graduate work focused on rangeland restoration in the South Texas Plains, including a thesis project developing an integrated management plan for “La Copita,” a 2,000+ acre Texas A&M research property.
Colton also has hands-on experience in the clean energy space, including battery storage, solar, and related infrastructure projects. This knowledge allows him to help landowners evaluate and navigate modern energy proposals and challenges while protecting the integrity and long-term productivity of their land.
Colton lives in Galveston, Texas, with his fiancé Sarah and his lab, Bubba. He is a member of Quail Forever, Ducks Unlimited, CCA-Galveston Chapter, and Stewards of the Wild.
Colton is licensed in Texas.
