Fall Creek Ranch - Travis County, Spicewood, TX

Less than an hour from downtown Austin, Fall Creek Ranch is a remarkable asset offering a truly exceptional Hill Country setting right in the path of growth. As you enter the ranch, you’re greeted by a high knoll with 360-degree views that step down into rolling pastures dotted with scattered oaks and juniper. From there, the land drops quickly into the Fall Creek bottom, creating dramatic canyon-like features with towering cliffs that rise over the cypress and elms below. Thanks to these high rock walls, the creek bottom feels extremely private—no surrounding homes, no rooftops, nothing in sight but cool, clear pools and shaded water. Tucked along the creek sits a one-of-a-kind cabin—a piece of art and history—built with hand-selected wood logs, reclaimed materials, antique doors, and unique fixtures that make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time.

Location

The ranch is located 14 miles West of Austin City Limits, south of 71 on Fall Creek Road, a gated private road.

Topography, Rangeland & Habitat

The ranch showcases impressive topography with big, sweeping views from the highest hill. A fire ring sits on the summit, the perfect spot to watch sunsets over a soft canopy of cypress trees winding through neighboring ranches as the creek runs west. From the knoll, the land terraces down to a broad plateau with buried electric along the rim—an ideal setup for future homesites if someone chose to subdivide. These sites would enjoy the knoll as a dramatic backdrop to the southwest and, to the northeast, elevated views overlooking the creek bottom as it stretches east to west.

Improvements

The log cabin is a pier-and-beam structure perched above the creek, offering the feeling of stepping into another era. Built with exceptional craftsmanship and a blend of new and reclaimed materials, the home is truly a work of art. Expansive porches connect each section of the home and provide countless vantage points overlooking different stretches of the creek.

The eastern wing includes the main living area, kitchen, and a loft that overlooks the great room. Between the living spaces is an open-air dog run. The western wing includes two bedrooms on the first floor, and up the beautifully crafted wooden staircase in the dog run sit two large bunk rooms.

Just down a stone path from the porches, you’ll find a stone fire ring, sauna, and a hot/cold cedar tub—each set among towering cypress that turn brilliant colors in the fall.

Water

Fall Creek has historically been a flowing creek, though the recent hard drought has left it in pools. When running, the creek forms a deep pool directly in front of the cabin before spilling over rock shelves and cypress roots into a series of waterfalls. These pour into a chain of pools on the western side of the ranch before continuing toward the Pedernales River, just one property over. There are also two water wells on the property and an extensive rainwater catchment system on the main house.

Electricity

Electric service runs to the cabin near the creek, along with a line that extends up the hill to a storage shed. A backup generator is tucked into the hillside to power the home when needed. Above that area sits a large propane tank, an additional generator, and a substantial solar panel system.
