Location
Located just 20 miles north of the conveniences of Beeville, in northern Bee County, Tulsita Ranch is approximately 180 miles from Houston, 125 miles from Austin, and 75 miles from San Antonio and Corpus Christi. The ranch fronts State Highway 181 for about ¾ of a mile, providing blacktop access to the gate.
Topography, Rangeland & Habitat
Located in the northern reaches of the South Texas Brush Country, this area averages approximately 30 inches of rainfall per year. With approximately 60% of soils being USDA classified as Class 2 sandy clay loams and fine sandy loams, this ranch will grow both grass and browse.
The ranch features diverse topography, with good roll and 50-60’ of relief in the western portion of the ranch, dropping off to the relatively level Medio Creek bottom on the eastern side of the property. Elevations range from 310 to 430’. Medio Creek runs through the ranch for approximately 1 mile, and is lined with cedar elm, live oaks, and large mesquite, providing great turkey roosting habitat.
Along with the hardwoods and mesquites, there is high-quality browse including guallio, blackbrush, guyacan, granjeno, and lime prickly ash, among others. Grasses are predominantly a mix of natives such as windmill, side oats gramma, and three-awn.
Wildlife
Wildlife is plentiful and sportsmen have a wide selection of game to choose from. White-tail deer, hogs, and varmints provide plenty of hunting and game watching opportunities. The turkey population on this ranch and area in general is excellent, and dove hunting can be great, particularly at the tanks. Quail also call this ranch home, and with recent brush work performed by the owners, should flourish in the sandy soils and habitat.
