Enormous Texas ranch with its own mountain range lists for $27M

An enormous Texas ranch with its own mountain range has hit the market for an eye-watering $27million.

The 32,000-acre Wylie Mountains Ranch in Van Horn, Texas, is located roughly two hours from El Paso and includes almost 100% of the nearby mountain range, according to the listing

‘One of the more interesting features of this ranch is the fact that it encompasses nearly the entire Wylie mountain range providing the steward a unique opportunity to manage the land and wildlife that call these mountains home,’ Agent Ross Studer told DailyMail.com.

‘The magnitude of a property such as the Wylie Mountains Ranch is the type of place that may only pop up once in a generation,’ the Chron reported.

Studer went on to describe the property as a ‘legacy ranch’ – a term he claims they do not use lightly.

The ranch was named after Robert Kelsey Wylie, who founded it in 1885.

The Mississippian had moved to the Lone Star state in 1850 and bought the land that would become his ranch five years later.

The mountain range even has two peaks named Bob and Mollie after Wylie and his wife, according to Republic Ranches

The property includes a modest three-bedroom and two-bathroom home.

It also has barns, sheds, coolers, traps, and pens, which would be useful if the new owner is interested in housing livestock, Republic Ranches reported.

The ranch sits at an elevation of between 3,900 to 5,310 feet and is rich in diverse ecosystems and wildlife, according to the listing.

It has various Chihuahuan Desert ecosystems, including grasslands, brushlands, foothills, canyons, mountains, and numerous peaks over 5,000 feet.

There are also unique trees that are predominantly found in canyons and drainages, including hackberry and evergreen sumac.

The new homeowners can also expect to see deer, antelope, and different types of quail wandering around the 32,000 acre property.

However, the property has been ‘managed predominantly for wildlife with a limited feeding program and water distribution,’ the listing noted.

The land can be used for livestock grazing as it has previously – although it currently only has a few stray cattle wandering over from the neighbor.

It is also home to butterscotch agate – a mineral that can be used in jewelry and resembles butterscotch taffy.

‘The Wylie Mountains ranch offers incredible hunting and other wildlife oriented recreational opportunities by way of the numerous species found on the ranch including mule deer, elk, aoudad, blue quail, Gambel’s Quail, dove, migratory birds and predators,’ realtor Charles Davidson told DailyMail.com.

Another unique spot on the property is a sinkhole that ‘begs further exploration,’ the listing added.

Water-wise, new homeowners will have access to six operating wells, where most are 700 feet deep and can produce enough to service ranching operations.

‘There is an extensive distribution system to troughs and storage across many portions of the ranch. There are also numerous dirt tanks to capture and hold runoff for periods following a rain event,’ the listing added.
