Plenty of people want a slice of Texas real estate, their own private kingdom to rule as they please. Even NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal is getting in on the fun. But in such a large state, it can be hard for a property to stand out. They need a distinguishing feature, like a cave.
That’s right, the Brindley Ranch in San Saba County comes with almost 600 acres of stunning Texas Hill Country landscape and a private cave for future owners to go exploring. Belonging to the Brindley family for generations, the 595-acre property is now selling for $4.99 million from Republic Ranches.
“When Dr. Clyde Brindley and his wife Gwendolyn retired to San Saba, Texas their goal was to preserve this beautiful land surrounding Harrell’s Cave for generations of Texans to come,” Nell Brindley said in a statement to MySA. “Young and old alike thrill to watch the native wildlife & await the return of the bat colony that has chosen to reside in Harrell’s Cave. It’s been our joy to honor Uncle Clyde by protecting this hidden gem in the state we love.”
Harrell’s Cave is accessible through a 42-foot vertical shaft that descends into the chamber measuring 175 feet by 210 feet, with 20-foot tall ceilings, according to the listing. The cave was formed by intermittent streams flowing into several pools of water and now houses myotis bats, including 5,000 during pup season.
Back on the surface, the ranch sits 1.5 hours from Austin and offer pastures of tall grasses, young persimmons and white brush to go along with Oak and Elm Trees. Hunters will be more than satisfied by the white-tailed deer, hogs, doves and turkey available to be caught.
So, whether you’re a Batman enthusiast, want to explore the underground or have a front-row view to watch bats fly out of the cave, Brindley Ranch might be the place for you.
